TRAFFIC LIGHT AT ALCATRAZ AND CLAREMONT
If you have a chance, please write Farid Javandel, the Traffic Engineer for Berkeley, who will be responding to the mitigations that Safeway proposed in the DEIR, which includes a traffic light at Alcatraz and Claremont. His email fjavandel@cityofBerkeley.info and state your opposition to a new light at Claremont and Alcatraz.

JULY 24TH NEWS:
We made a great showing at the July 20, 2011 Planning Commission DEIR hearing. We scored points with our knowledge and understanding of the issues. Many thanks to all that attended. Many more people signed speaker cards and time prevented some of them from speaking, SO the hearing has been “continued” for Wednesday, August 3rd @ 6PM in the same location. The more people that attend in solidarity with FANS the better. Come and watch history being made.
JULY 20TH NEWS:
The Draft Environmental Impact Report for the Safeway on College project is available as of July 1, 2011. Below is a link to it on the City of Oakland’s Current Environmental Review Documents website. It’s under Project Name #3 on the list of environmental documents.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3RD :
Planning Commission continuation of hearing for public comment on the DEIR (Draft Environmental Impact Report).
- Planning Commission business meeting begins at 6:00 PM.
- Oakland City Hall, City Council Chamber, 3rd Floor

The hearing on July 20th was a success and we had a good crowd, AND we need to have a bigger crowd at the August 3rd hearing. Please attend.
- If you wish to speak please note that comments are limited to 2 minutes.
- If you need more time we will try and find people to cede their time to you.
- If you do not wish to speak please fill out a speaker card so that your time may be passed along to another speaker. You must stay in the chamber to do this.
Speakers should be sure to send a copy of their comments to the Planning Department. Pete Vollman, email address is pvollman@oaklandnet.com to ensure that your comments become part of the official record. More on this in the coming days.
